“Confessions of a Teenage Girl” – Sophia Leintz

Forgive me Father, for I have sinned.

It’s been a lifetime since my last confession.

Before you,

My knees skinned,

My tongue skinned, but unchained,

My eyes, hollow, yet holding the runes of Rome.

~

Forgive me Father, as I can feel the soil raining down.

Each layer increases like pennies thrown in a wishing well.

~

Forgive me Father,

For I am the spectator and the prisoner,

Getting tried for the betrayal of killing my old self.

Slowly the ax of adulthood goes deeper,

And the crowd cheers.

~

Forgive me, Father, for I dream of tomorrow,

A day set apart from all the unbuttoning and unbuttoning of trivial routines.

Days of glory, filled with joy.

To hear the trumpets of angels.

To transform into a nymphalid,

Unbound to the ground.

~

Forgive me, Mother,

Because I am becoming everything that is not me.
