If I had to do only one thing for the rest of my life, I would write.
I had initially fallen backwards into it, dreaming up my own stories to tell that I had planned to tell visually, but soon found that the best way of sharing them was writing them all down. Now that it has become a larger part of my life, I can safely say that it was the right choice to make. While it takes minimal effort to sit behind a computer and tap away at the keyboard and reach a certain word count or page limit, there is more to writing than that. When writing, you need to consider the kind of impact your work will make, the kind of characters if any, and what the main point to the whole thing is. You can craft a world of characters and conflict, while also teaching the readers an important lesson about something. This dual nature of the written word is why I find it so fascinating.
Writing is an art form. Working with words to craft tales of adventure to intrigue and inspire simply to tell a story is something that we should hold on to. Since the dawn of time, writing has been a major part of what makes us human. We have the invaluable ability to create things, something that I feel we take for granted far too often.
Despite all of this fanciful talk about writing, these reasons are mostly secondary as to why I write. The truth is, I write because it’s fun. It’s a hobby of mine (and hopefully a future career), and I enjoy it so much because of that. There are no rules as to what I can and can’t create, so I can let my imagination do what it wants. Being able to brainstorm and immediately write down ideas on-the-spot whenever I want is tremendously fun.
If I could do only one thing for the rest of my life, I would write, because it is a fun way of telling the stories I wish to share.
